Day 3 Spain Road Trip: Granada to Gibraltar

Day 3 of three days road trip from Madrid, Spain to Gibraltar
morning: Granada to Alhama de Granada
We left Granada around 11:30 and took road A-338 south and east around Embalse de los Bermejales lake / dam into Alhama de Granada. In Alhama de Granada, had a coffee and walked around the town.

afternoon: From A-402 to A-335 south to A-7 Costa del Sol
On road A-402 to Pilas de Algiada, you get a view of Sierra de Tejada. Carry on south to Embalse de Viñuela, Periana. South of the town, you take highway A-335 to the coast, arriving at Velez-Malaga.

At this point, we noticed a complete difference in traffic. Drivers were much more aggressive. Gone were the cute little Spanish touches. Plenty of pubs and fish and chips. We drove into Torre del Mar, along the coast. Really not wanting to deal with the hectic bustle of Costa del Sol, we returned to highway A-7 to Benalmaden and Fuengirola. Stopped in Estepona for coffee and some horrible tasting tapas.

Gibraltar
Arrived Gibraltar about 4 pm. Drove around La Linea looking for a place to rent. Went into Gibraltar about 8 pm. David returned car. He rented a Ibiz from Avis at Gibraltar airport.

Driving into Gibraltar

Time, Distance, Stuff
This trip (plotted below) took us about five hours. Approximate driving distance was about 300 kilometres. We took major highways for most of this journey to the coast. We did stop in a few small villages before we hit Velez-Malaga. Once we hit the Costa del Sol, we didn't stop except for a lunch break in Estepona.
